iCare, a subsidiary of Revenio Group, announced the launch of the iCare ST500, packing the features of iCare rebound tonometry technology into a slit lamp–based design.
The iCare ST500 Slit Lamp tonometer combines ease of use for the eye-care practitioner and comfort for the patient, enabling faster operations and a smoother acquisition for improved efficiency of clinical workflow, the company said in a press release.
Clinical validation indicates a high correlation between intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements taken with the iCare ST500 and IOP measurements with the current gold standard, Goldmann applanation tomography (GAT), the company said. The data also showed lower variability between repeated results for iCare ST500 compared to GAT.
According to the company, the iCare ST500 enables accurate and repeatable operator-independent IOP measurements, and has an intuitive user interface. It also features a slit lamp–mounted design, allowing for easy patient positioning. Indications on the display help in assisting alignment and acquisition. The remote control improves the acquisition process, saving time for the operator.
The iCare ST500 also has a Quick Measure feature for faster operations in challenging cases. iCare ST500 also offers the advantages of rebound technology — there is no need for topical anesthesia nor fluorescent dye; no need for long collateral procedures like calibration; and there is no need for disinfection nor sterilization.
In addition, iCare ST500 also introduces the new SmartCradle: a key feature that allows users to take advantage of a new rechargeable lithium battery and allows for easy connectivity and digitalization of IOP measurements.
