■ Various types of patient reminders have been found to help achieve better glaucoma medication adherence. Linking reminders to patient electronic health records (EHRs) was seen by researchers at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as potentially allowing some helpful input by clinicians.
In this study, reported in JAMA Ophthalmology, 100 patients (average age 65) agreed to set up EHR-linked reminders delivered via text or voice message for glaucoma medications for 3 months and were surveyed about the experience. Of the participants, 94 ultimately set up reminders and 89 completed follow-up. Of these patients, 74% reported the reminders were useful, 15% were neutral about them and 11% found them not useful. Most participants (81%) had help setting up reminders.
