Recently published 6-year data on canaloplasty performed with iTrack (Nova Eye Medical Ltd) demonstrates its long-term effectiveness and beneficial safety profile. Reported in the Journal of Glaucoma, the German retrospective, single-center study recruited 27 eyes to undergo canaloplasty performed via an ab interno surgical technique. The surgeons performed canaloplasty as a standalone procedure or in combination with cataract surgery, across cases of primary open-angle glaucoma and pseudoexfoliative glaucoma. The authors noted that this is the longest follow-up for ab interno canaloplasty available in the published literature.
At 6 years, mean IOP was reduced significantly from 19.9 ±5.2 mmHg at baseline to 14.6 ±3.3 mmHg (P<.001). There was no statistically significant difference between standalone canaloplasty procedures and those combined with cataract surgery. Additionally, the mean number of medications were reduced by more than 50% from 1.9 ±1 to 0.9 ±0.9 (P=.005).
