Dr. Qiu: Welcome to AAO 2025 in Orlando, Florida. I'm Mary Qiu, MD, from Cleveland Clinic, and this is Aakriti Garg Shukla, MD, MSc, from Columbia.
Dr. Shukla: You're joining us for a session of Glaucoma Group Therapy. We'll be sharing our surgical triumphs and unfortunate failures. Several of our panelists who just presented will be sharing these with you. Enjoy!
Case Title: Allo-Fail, with Shivani S. Kamat, MD
Dr. Kamat: Hi, my name is Shivani S. Kamat, MD, and I'm a glaucoma specialist at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Qiu: Dr. Kamat, can you tell us a little bit more about the case you just presented?
Dr. Kamat: I talked about a case of a patient who was sent to me for a second opinion. She needed surgery, but was refusing incisional surgery, so we decided to try a superchoroidal device called the AlloFlo Uveo (Iantrek). She initially responded well, but at week 3 she presented with a massive eye pressure spike, which turned out to be cleft closure. I talked a little bit about how I temporized that in the weeks following that pressure spike, because the patient was refusing surgery, and then I talked about how I ended up needing to do a tube shunt to help control her eye pressure. She’s now doing well.
Dr. Qiu: Thank you so much for sharing your case—we've all been there! GP
