A recent study published in the Journal of Glaucoma evaluated the repeatability of online circular contrast perimetry (OCCP) compared to standard automated perimetry (SAP) in normal participants and patients with stable glaucoma over 18 weeks. The study, involving 36 participants, found that OCCP demonstrated good repeatability and reliability comparable to SAP.
Test-retest intraclass correlation coefficients for OCCP mean deviation were excellent at baseline (0.98) and good at 18 weeks (0.88). OCCP testing time was significantly shorter than SAP (5:29 vs 6:00 minutes, P<0.001) and had lower false-negative and fixation loss responses. Importantly, OCCP can be performed on any computer screen without additional hardware, potentially expanding access to glaucoma screening and monitoring. The researchers conclude that OCCP holds promise as a tool for both in-clinic and at-home visual field assessment, which could significantly improve the provision of glaucoma care.
